Your Money Or Your Love?

It is a point in my life where I have reached a fork in the road. The question that stares back at me is: Do you want to be paid a salary doing what you dislike OR do you want to risk earning nothing doing what you love?

I believe many of us have faced this dilemma before; anyone considering whether it is safer to be an employee or more exciting to be a business owner – work for money or work for passion?

If only I knew what I was really passionate about… because honestly, I don’t. For example, I like writing this little note, but translating this hobby into blooming business requires serious planning and tons of determined effort.

Perhaps it is easier to work for someone and be told exactly what to do. Conventional wisdom has always told us to study hard and get a good job. There must be a reason for this because not everyone can be a boss and 95% of businesses fail within the first 5 years.

Especially if you need to support a family, the stable income from a job may be just what you need. So… dilemma, dilemma… I believe I am not alone. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

How would you make your decision?
What are the pros and cons that you would weigh?
What would be the ultimate factor affecting your decision?

I know there are happy and depressed employees. Some got lucky in finding their dream job.
There are also successful and stressed-out entrepreneurs. Some cracked the code to make it big.

Perhaps there is some magical ingredient that guarantees your happiness in either case. What might that be?

Your input is much appreciated; perhaps you can share from your personal experience.

Until next time Trooper… Cheers,
Lance Ong
